Miletos is one of the oldest cities of Ionia, located north of Soke, about 60 km away from Kusadasi. The city was on the point where the Buyuk Menderes (“Meander”) flew into the Aegean Sea. Because of the alluviums, Miletos has been remote several times from sea, which explains that one can see today different harbors.
Miletos was also the city of many scientists and philosophers such as Thales, Anaximander, Hekataios (principle source to Herodotos) and closer to us, Isidorus, the architect of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. Miletos had its alphabet recognized by the Greek world as the official Greek alphabet, basis of the current Latin alphabet.
Priene is an ancient Hellenistic city located just to the north of Miletus in western Turkey. It was an ancient Greek holy city and the home of an important temple of Athena. Priene’s picturesque ruins include several columns of the Temple of Athena, much of the city wall, a well-preserved theater and a council chamber. The ruins are next to the modern town of Gullubahce.
Didyma, on the west coast of Turkey, was an important sacred site in the ancient Greek world. Its famous oracle and Temple of Apollo attracted crowds of pilgrims and was second in importance only to Delphi. Today, the temple’s magnificent ruins still attract thousands of visitors – Didyma is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Turkey. The modern name of the town is Didim.
Dalyan is the meeting place of the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas. It has a long and sandy beach. It is one of the few beaches left on the Mediterranean coastline where Loggerhead turtles lay their eggs.The popular mud baths containing sulphur are said to make you look younger and more beautiful. 4th C BC rock-cut tombs and the ancient city of Caunos are also interesting to see.
Once known as Kirkince, the village was built by the Greeks around 800 years ago and since the population exchange in 1924 has since been inhabited by Muslims from Salonica. The village has a few guest-houses and restaurants, and is popular with foreign and Turkish tourists to experience a taste of traditional village life in a peaceful environment.

The lake is fed by little torrents and by the river Meander during the rainy season. The water flows back into the Meander along the same direction in the summer.
